When the Motorola Moto Z2 was released, they updated the Moto Display system application with a new feature that allows you to reply to messages without unlocking your phone. However, they never brought this feature over to the original Moto Z. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this new feature, however.
XDA Senior Member started digging into the updated Moto system applications on the newly released Motorola Moto X4 and noticed that the updated Moto Display APK worked on their original Moto Z without needing root access. There are two APKs that you’ll want to install, but once installed you can take advantage of the Moto Display and all of the latest goodies that it has to offer.
Some users are reporting that these APKs will only install if your device is running Android Nougat, though we don’t why you wouldn’t have upgraded to Nougat already. Furthermore, a user is reporting that these updated APKs also work on their Moto X Force. You’re free to try it out on your Moto device, though there’s no guarantee it will work on all of them.
