Unless you’re a newcomer to the Android scene, you probably don’t need an introduction to the Google Play Store. It’s the most popular app store among Android users since it offers a wide range of apps and games to choose from and guarantees that they’re safe to download. It also automatically provides updates to the apps that users download, ensuring they’re always up to date.
The latest version of the Google Play Store is 7.3.07, which is rolling out in stages and will reach your device soon. If you can’t wait for the update to reach you, though, don’t worry since you can download its APK from APKMirror, APKPolice, or other reliable sites. The update is almost 17 MB in size and is compatible with devices that are running Android 4.0 and above.
The Google Play Store 7.3.07 doesn’t come with a changelog, so we can’t pinpoint the exact changes and improvements it brings. However, it’s safe to assume that it comes with performance updates, security patches, and bug fixes.
Play Store Gets a Different Layout
Aside from the 7.3.07 update, the Google Play Store has implemented several other improvements in the past few days. One of these is the change in its layout that separates apps and games into two different groups.
Historically, the Play Store has lumped games and apps into one main category. So, if you search for the latest apps, you’ll see a list that includes the most popular games on the store. Conversely, if you’ll look for the most downloaded games, the Play Store will give you a list that covers both games and apps.
This isn’t really a huge issue — after all, this has always been how things have been since the Google Play Store came into existence. But separating games and apps into different categories is a nice gesture from Google since it makes the app marketplace more organized and easier to browse through.
Google is slowly rolling out this change, so not all Android users may get it right away. Still, it’s nice to know that this has already been implemented and that it will be available to everyone in the coming weeks or months.
Play Store App Updates Become Smaller
It seems that Google has several tricks up its sleeve. Apart from organizing the Play Store’s layout, the tech giant has announced that it will now offer app updates in a smaller size.
Currently, the Play Store updates applications by replacing the existing app in users’ devices with the newest version. This takes time since users are essentially re-downloading the entire app. Google has found a way around this by using File-by-File patching. Through this method, the Play Store will identify new and/or modified files before downloading and installing them in users’ devices, making updates significantly smaller.
This can greatly help users in reducing their data consumption. However, it will take a longer time and require more processor power since Play Store has to compare the new and old files and decide which ones to keep and which ones to remove.
