Unless you’re a newcomer to the Android scene, you probably don’t need an introduction to the Google Play Store. It’s the most popular app store among Android users since it offers a wide range of apps and games to choose from and guarantees that they’re safe to download. It also automatically provides updates to the apps that users download, ensuring they’re always up to date.

The latest version of the Google Play Store is 7.3.07, which is rolling out in stages and will reach your device soon. Google is slowly rolling out this change, so not all Android users may get it right away. Still, it’s nice to know that this has already been implemented and that it will be available to everyone in the coming weeks or months.

Play Store App Updates Become Smaller

It seems that Google has several tricks up its sleeve. Apart from organizing the Play Store’s layout, the tech giant has announced that it will now offer app updates in a smaller size.

Currently, the Play Store updates applications by replacing the existing app in users’ devices with the newest version. This takes time since users are essentially re-downloading the entire app. Google has found a way around this by using File-by-File patching. Through this method, the Play Store will identify new and/or modified files before downloading and installing them in users’ devices, making updates significantly smaller.

This can greatly help users in reducing their data consumption. However, it will take a longer time and require more processor power since Play Store has to compare the new and old files and decide which ones to keep and which ones to remove.
